The Life Styled has found its way onto the pages of the popular homeland mag Mpls St. Paul Magazine‘s October issue! I had so much fun helping Emily find her essence, and detoxifying her closet. Sorting through her collection of Louboutins was a bit like browsing the flavors at Sprinkles. Can we really call this work?

Thanks to style editor Melissa Colgan for deeming me a StyleMaker, and to Emily Howald for a great article!

This September, as the cooler weather started to set in and I began to retire my coral and pink nail polishes in lieu of dark colors, I noticed a personal obsession forming. See, fall usually brings out the blacks, grays, and eggplants that make up my wardrobe, but it was feeling a bit like we were going back to a redo of last year.  Luckily, inspiration stuck as a color kept flashing in my brain: military green!

Military Green Slouch

Most people gravitate towards a certain neutral for fall. Those of us with cooler toned skin may love to rock blacks and grays, while the warmer bunch may go after browns and camels. It’s great to know what works for you and stick with it, but it’s fun to bring in a few other staples to mix in. Army green is the perfect non-boring neutral. It goes with all skin tones, and matches wonderfully with both black and brown. Even if you’re not a fan of the military styling, opt for a blazer, sweater, or tights.

Vince Featherweight Utility Shirt, Essie Sew Psyched

In celebration of this new staple, I found a killer deal at Vince on this utility shirt (60% off!). I got in a large so it would be extra slouchy and long – perfect for belting – and Essie’s Sew Psyched which I am… so psyched to polish my nails with this week. This fall, you’ll find me in my greens with prep/rocker touches and black accents.

Home improvement projects can feel like a never ending process, but there are always fun little touches you can add to really bring a room to life. Inspired once again by Mad Men, I made a small yet impactful addition to the home office… what else? A bar!

Tiffany & Co. decanter, CB2 shaker, Alessi spoon, Anthropologie bowl, Williams Sonoma glasses and cocktail napkin, West Elm tray{}

I’m not a whiskey or a scotch drinker, so I filled the lovely decanter (a wedding shower gift from my dear friend) with Grey Goose. While I may not be pouring myself  a plentiful serving on the rocks at 1pm like Don Draper, it’s fun to enjoy a cocktail in the office at the end of a work day with the hubby or girlfriends. {}

CB2 credenza, Ikea lamp and file cabinet, West Elm desk and chair, home made memo board

Aside from a nice drink now and then, the other key to a successful business is good organization. This modern credenza from CB2 houses unsightly items like the printer, and provides the perfect excuse to buy lots of fun storage boxes. They will serve a satisfying purpose and provide a nice treat every time you slide the doors open.{}
